Introducing the Trident Passport Cover — the newest product in our store and the most personal piece in the Ukrainian Trident collection, available in three designs and created to mark Ukraine's 35th Independence Day.

Its designs are inspired by the tryzub that Volodymyr the Great, Prince of Kyiv, stamped on the first coins of Kyivan Rus more than a thousand years ago — the ancient sign that independent Ukraine restored as its state coat of arms in 1992.

Each design interprets it differently, so everyone can find one that feels right.

Designed in Ukraine, shipped worldwide — and every purchase helps keep our journalism independent.

Size: 3.9″ × 5.8″ / 10 cm x 14.7 cm.

Story behind the illustration

In 1918, when the newly established Ukrainian People's Republic adopted the ancient Kyivan Rus symbol as their official coat of arms, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, the first president of an independent Ukrainian state – UNR – commissioned the renowned graphic artist and architect Vasyl Krychevsky to create the official designs for state documents and stamps based of the newly adopted coat of arms. Krychevsky based his work directly on the ancient trident found on the coins of Volodymyr the Great.
